China pledges good energy supply to HK for 20 yrs

HONG KONG, Aug 28 (Reuters) - China has signed an initial agreement with Hong Kong to guarantee a steady supply of energy to the city for a further 20 years under a broad plan to cut the use of polluting coal and raise that of cleaner energy sources.

- Emerging Energy News: Inpex to build new LNG terminal in Japan: Inpex Holdings Inc. yesterday unveiled a ¥100 billion (US$912 million) investment in a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at the port in Joetsu, Niigata prefecture, Japan. The project includes the building of two 180,000-kiloli tre (4.75 million-gallon ) LNG storage tanks. Construction will begin next year with start-up aimed for 2014. Initial receiving capacity will be between 500,000 tonnes (550,000 tons) to 1 million tonnes (1.1 million tons). An Inpex official said during a local media briefing the company expects the LNG terminal to handle imports from its Ichthys project in Australia and Abadi gas field in Indonesia.
