Fixed Carbon Defined
The nonvolatile matter in coal minus the ash. Fixed carbon is the solid residue other than ash obtained by prescribed methods of destructive distillation of a coal. Fixed carbon is the part of the total carbon that remains when coal is heated in a closed vessel until all matter is driven off.

Progress Energy wants another rate hike

Progress Energy announced Friday it wants another rate increase. If state regulators approve the hike, customers would likely pay $34 more a month beginning in January.

The lack of power at portable classrooms at Wilmeth Elementary school last Thursday and Friday has been fixed. A teacher went to the hospital on Friday because she was feeling bad and it was a possibility that it was carbon monoxide related. The teachers name was not released.
